Welcome, everyone to our annual All-Church Fast. Every year we take the bulk of the month of February as a church to pursue God together, fasting from something that will make us sit up and take notice.
Some people fast from food, some from coffee, others from more non-traditional things: Facebook, TV, even listening to the radio in the car. And whether it's a set time every day, or simply when the urge to engage in that activity strikes, we take that time to be very intentional about sitting down in prayer and talking to God instead.
This year, I've undertaken a major change. I've set aside my Coke Zero for the next three weeks. And not just Coke Zero, although that is generally my drink of choice. I've decided to put away and and all pop. This (I hope) will force me to take moments throughout the day to take a timeout with God. We are two days in, and I've had somewhere around 1200 cravings, so I guess it's off to a good start!
I hope you will join us this year. It doesn't have to be anything huge. Take one meal once a week, and use that time to pray instead. Turn off the TV, and kneel down with your family for a few minutes. My hope and desire is to learn more about God together, and about the next steps for our church. Keep watching this space for more from our leadership team and staff as we engage in this together. Feel free to comment, to share what God is teaching you during this time, the difficulties you might be facing, or even encouragement you might have for others.
Thanks for being the church together with me!
